If you pay tuition to a college and put in effort to learn, do you expect to receive a diploma and a certain return on your tuition investment? If you buy a whole life insurance policy that gains equity, do you expect to use that money when you get older? If you buy a bond don't you expect interest and principle gains? If I was FORCED to pay into Social Security, I expect to get my money back with a sizable return!! History is full of examples of individuals and corporations raping the environment for personal profit and leaving the restoration and cleanup to be addressed by the government causing taxpayers to bear the burden. It's socialism for the wealthy. The public picks up the costs of their business. Let's not even get into clear cutting or selling wood overseas without processing it domestically. Companies first, foremost and only duty is to their shareholders - relying on those goals aligning with preservation of the planet is risky and random. Whereas ideally a government will represent the overall benefit of the people that vote it in. The fact that Congressmen are expected (by their party HQ) to spend 30 hours a week! raising money from large companies/donors kind of nullifies the idea of 'government for all'. A ban of lobbyists and the removal (by law) of the major task of fundraising would allow for a more representative government body. A body that spends more time on finding ways to improve things for everyone, rather than working on the phone all week seeking the approval of major donors.
